Animals That Eat Their Own Babies

Some animal species have been known to kill and sometimes eat all or some of their own babies. 

This phenomenon of killing one’s own offspring is known as filial infanticide.

 In case where the parent eats their young ones, it is called filial cannibalism.

Cats that eat their babies are likely suffering from a lack of nutrition or may be stressed.

Chimpanzees are highly intelligent animals, but have been known to eat their young ones.

Mother rats are believed to kill the weaker offspring to provide more resources to healthier offspring.

Lionesses may eat their cubs following birth if the cubs act strangely or do not start to bond with them. 

Rabbits may eat their stillborn babies in an attempt to prevent predators from smelling them. 

Sometimes Chickens accidentally break their eggs and then eat the yolk that has spilled out.
